Owner, Bruce Harvey, likes the cushioning effect of the Kura mat. “The thicker rubber is so much better for the horses’ legs. Concrete is too hard and dangerous if they fall. Sand is not good because the horses wear a channel in it.”
And he’s already found Kura to be cost-effective compared with the last two products. “It cost about the same, so if it lasts longer, then I’ve got value.”
The previous products used weren’t nearly as good as Kura, which is a much thicker and higher quality rubber. “I expect it to last a lot longer,” says Bruce.
He’d considered concrete as a solution but it was an expensive option – and the problems of lameness from slippage would still be there. Two years ago at the Mystery Creek Fieldays Trent came across Numat’s Cow Carpet and saw the future at his feet.
