Thirty years ago, a farmer knocked on our door with a problem. We have been solving problems for New Zealand and Australian farmers ever since.
It started with a
farmer at our door.
Mike Judd was an animal lover from childhood — he dreamed of being a farmer and poured that passion into nurturing every creature he could, from a kid goat to pigeons, guinea pigs to actual pigs. He may not have ended up on a farm, but after time as a stock agent following in his father Peter’s footsteps, the two of them built something that took Mike full-circle, back to caring for animals.
“We are a small team but that is no reflection of what we can achieve together. With teamwork, passion, integrity, and innovation we can achieve great things.”
Jacob Judd, General ManagerThey all chose NumatAGRI over other surfaces. You can't ask for a better testimonial than that.
— David Civil, Farmer
Improve the wellbeing of animals and maximize farmers' returns.
We will lead the Australasian market in animal surface solutions.
Hooves choose it.
Thirty years. One direction.
A factory, a family, and a hunch about rubber.
An animal lover since childhood, Mike Judd dreamed of being a farmer — nurturing every creature from a kid goat to pigeons. After time as a stock agent following in his father Peter's footsteps, the rise of dairying brought the Judd family from Whangarei to Oamaru. Along with running an auction firm, they established a company manufacturing rubber matting from locally-sourced chips. The mats were an instant success with local playcentres and kindergartens.
John Chalmers walked through the door.
One day local farmer John Chalmers knocked on the door looking for help. He'd noticed his herd were slipping and damaging their hooves exiting his rotary shed, and thought the mats could offer a solution. It took Mike full-circle, back to caring for animals. NumatAGRI was born.
From the dairy shed to the horse float.
NumatAGRI continued to evolve, providing products used in horse floats and stables, deer handling yards, calf trailers, feed pads, milking sheds, and farm tracks. If animals were walking on it, we made it safer.
Beyond the dairy shed.
Numat grew across both its agricultural and recreational divisions, adding the deer and equine markets alongside council play surfacing. If animals or children were walking on it, we made it safer.
YoungStar — built for Australian beef.
Seeing a need for highly durable slip-resistant rubber surfacing in the Australian beef industry, NumatAGRI developed the YoungStar mat. Our first product designed specifically for the Australian market.
The cows decided for themselves.
Farmer David Civil let his cows decide where they wanted to stand. They all chose NumatAGRI over other surfaces. You can't ask for a better testimonial than that.
From matting to full farm infrastructure.
NumatAGRI expanded with the launch of NumatAGRI Construction, focusing on the design and construction of off-paddock systems — feed pads, wintering barns, and stand-off pads. No one-size-fits-all solutions. We specialise in custom designing systems that cater to the unique needs of each dairy farmer.
Three offices. The same mission.
Kaitaia. Hamilton. Oamaru. A growing team who actually understand farming. We still do what we have always done — turn up, listen, and build what farmers actually need. After 30 years, we are just better at it.
