Callum and Twyla Kingan in Oamaru and Ollie Badcock at Nithdale Dairies in Southland both chose OxMat for their high-traffic shed areas. Two farms, two shed types, one mat holding its ground.
The Kingans | Weston, Oamaru
When Callum and Twyla Kingan decided to mat the top of their yard, the herringbone bails, and the exit area at their Weston property, they needed a mat that could handle the full range of what a working dairy shed throws at a surface. Heavy traffic through the bails. Cows queuing jostling and shifting at the top of the yard. Stock moving out through the exit, often in a hurry, often on wet concrete. twice a day – every day, for at least 300 days per year.
OxMat was the answer. The 25mm multi-use anti-slip mat gives cows the underfoot grip and comfort they need to move confidently through every part of the shed. The octagonal grip profile does its job where slip risk is highest. The studded base keeps the mat locked in place under load.
The studded base creates a surface that mimics a natural grass paddock—allowing hooves to sink slightly for a more comfortable, natural environment for your cows.
Ollie Badcock | Nithdale Dairies, Kaiwera, Southland
Rotary entry and exit are the hardest-working surfaces in any rotary dairy shed. Every cow, every milking, through the same narrow zones. The concrete underneath takes a punishing load, and so do the cows’ hooves and legs if there is nothing between them and it.
At Nithdale Dairies in Kaiwera, Ollie Badcock chose OxMat to cover the rotary entry and exit areas. The goal was simple: give the cows a surface they could trust, and take the punishment out of the most-used parts of the shed.
OxMat handles the constant traffic of a Southland herd without complaint. The anti-slip profile keeps cows steady as they step on and off the platform. The rubber absorbs the concussive impact that hard concrete cannot. Stock move more calmly. The pressure on hooves and lower limbs drops. Over a full season, that adds up.
One Mat. Two Sheds. The Same Result.
A herringbone in Oamaru and a rotary in Southland. Different farms, different setups, different demands. Both chose OxMat. Both got a surface that fits exactly, grips reliably, and takes the daily punishment of a working dairy shed without issue.
If your shed has areas where the concrete is taking its toll on your cows, OxMat is worth a close look.
